Designing A Dog Enclosure

Week 1

Students compute the Area and Perimeter of rectangles and right triangles.

Students practice calculating the Area of Rectangles and Right Triangles given a specified perimeter for the dog enclosure.

In groups, students investigate how to maximize the area, without compromising the set perimeter, through multiple calculations.

Students compare various areas of both rectangles and right triangles and make decisions about which dimensions to use for their project.

Week 2

Students will design their dog enclosure based upon last week's calculations.

Students will calculate the total cost of their dog enclosure given a supply list and cost sheet for materials.

Students will write an explanation of their project and support their decisions with specific facts.

Students will create a scale drawing of their finished dog enclosure.

Students will present their final projects to the class.
